Is the location of ancient Ghana same as modern Ghana?

The location of ancient Ghana is different from the modern state of Ghana. The ancient kingdom of Ghana was situated in West Africa and included parts of present-day southeastern Mauritania and western Mali. This area was known as the Sahel and was home to the Soninke people.

The modern state of Ghana is located in West Africa and is bordered by Burkina Faso to the north, Togo to the east, and Ivory Coast to the west. It is located on the Gulf of Guinea and is home to a diverse group of ethnic groups, including the Akan, Ga-Dangme, and Ewe.

While ancient Ghana and modern Ghana share a name, they are not located in the same geographic region.
