Ancient Libya was home to a diverse array of tribes, each with distinct cultures and territories. The most prominent were the Berbers (Amazigh), who remain the largest ethnic group in modern Libya. Other notable tribes included the Garamantes, a Saharan civilization known for their advanced irrigation systems and trade networks; the Nasamones, nomadic herders described by ancient Greek historians; the Psylli, reputed snake-charmers and healers; and the Lotophagi (or "Lotus Eaters"), mentioned in Homer's Odyssey. These groups interacted through trade, conflict, and cultural exchange, shaping the region's history long before Roman conquest.
