The Red Sea

The Red Sea is an arm of the Indian Ocean, bordered by Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Eritrea, Yemen and Djibouti. It is connected to the Mediterranean Sea by the Suez Canal. The Red Sea is about 2,300 kilometres (1,400 mi) long and 300 kilometres (200 mi) wide at its widest point. The sea has a maximum depth of about 2,200 metres (7,200 feet) in the central trench.
