Buildings Destroyed in the 2011 Japan Earthquake and Tsunami

Official Japanese government estimates report that the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami caused the collapse or severe damage of approximately 120,000 buildings across the affected prefectures (Iwate, Miyagi, Fukushima). This includes homes, commercial structures, and public facilities. The tsunami accounted for the vast majority of structural destruction, sweeping away entire coastal communities.
