Mongolia was never fully colonized by a foreign power. However, parts of Mongolia were occupied and controlled by various empires and countries throughout history, including the Xiongnu Empire, the Xianbei state, the Rouran Khaganate, the Göktürk Khaganate, the Uyghur Khaganate, the Mongol Empire, the Yuan dynasty, the Qing dynasty, and the Republic of China.
