Vietnam and the Future Prospects in Tourism

The 1960s saw the beginnings of mass tourism around the world. Vietnam, because of the political situation at the time, did not benefit from this new industry. The United States' embargo on trade with Vietnam was lifted in 1994 by President Bill Clinton, opening a new tourism market to the West.
  1. Inbound Tourists

    • Most visitors to Vietnam are from China, the United States, Japan and South Korea. It is expected that there will be an increase in visitors from Russia.

    Tourist Revenue

    • Estimates hold that each tourist will spend an average of $976.26 USD in Vietnam.

    Vietnamese Travelers

    • Most Vietnamese prefer to stay close to home for vacations. This, and the fact that an average per person 5.88 percent increase in discretionary income is expected, helps neighboring countries and the domestic market.

    National Tourism Year 2010

    • The Vietnam National Administration of Tourism named 2010 as National Tourism Year for travel agents and tourism officials to host events showcasing Vietnam and its highlights.

    Ecotourism

    • Hanoi is introducing eco-tourism to Vietnam. Halong Bay and its 1,969 islands, a UNESCO world Heritage Site, is a perfect venue for this growing trend in the travel industry.
