Is the republic of China and same?

The Republic of China (ROC) is a country located in East Asia, comprising the island of Taiwan and several smaller islands. It is not the same as the People's Republic of China (PRC), commonly referred to as China, which is a country located on the mainland of Asia. The ROC and the PRC are two separate entities with distinct governments and political systems. The ROC was founded in 1912 after the overthrow of the Qing dynasty, while the PRC was founded in 1949 after the Chinese Civil War. Both entities claim sovereignty over the entire territory of China, including Taiwan. However, the ROC currently only effectively exercises control over Taiwan and some outlying islands.
