Why the settlement was called sydney?

The British colonization of Australia began with the arrival of the First Fleet in Botany Bay in 1788. Governor Arthur Phillip chose a site on the southern shore of Port Jackson, which he named Sydney in honor of the British Home Secretary, Lord Sydney, who had been responsible for the planning of the expedition.
