What Canadian City was previously calle York?

The Canadian city that was previously called York is Toronto, the provincial capital of Ontario. The city was originally named York in 1793 by John Graves Simcoe, the first Lieutenant-Governor of Upper Canada. The name York was chosen in honour of Prince Frederick, the Duke of York and Albany, who was the second son of King George III. In 1834, the town of York was incorporated into a city and the name was changed to Toronto.
