What kind of land does Quebec have?

The terrain of Quebec is largely dominated by the Canadian Shield, a vast area of ancient Precambrian rock that covers much of eastern Canada. The Shield is characterized by rolling hills, numerous lakes, and dense forests. The southernmost region of Quebec, known as the St. Lawrence Lowlands, is a fertile plain that stretches along the St. Lawrence River. This area is home to most of Quebec's population and agriculture. The Appalachian Mountains also extend into Quebec, forming the province's southern boundary with the United States. These mountains are lower and less rugged than the Canadian Rockies in the west, but still provide a scenic backdrop for many of Quebec's cities and towns.
