Tourist Research Innovation Project

The Tourist Research Innovation Project (TRIP) is the first government project aimed at helping rural communities development their tourism potential. It began in British Columbia, and hopes to develop a model for all rural communities throughout Canada.
  1. Purpose of TRIP

    • TRIP's purpose is to convey information and knowledge about what is necessary to have a successful tourism industry to those rural communities in British Columbia that have lacked the resources or the access to government and industry data.

    TRIP Partners

    • TRIP receives funding from the government of Canada, and is partnered with College of the Rockies, Tourism BC, the LinkBC Network, Thomas Rivers University, the College of New Caledonia, and others, to offer access to information and create programs to encourage rural tourism.

    TRIP Programs and Projects

    • Rural communities can apply to TRIP for learning initiatives, and one-day programs focusing on community development. TRIP also sponsors conferences for rural community planning, such as the Transforming Community conference and the British Columbia Rural Tourism conference. Teams of researchers associated with TRIP and its university partners meet with individual rural communities to help them strategize how to maximize their tourism potential.
