What carved out many of Canada lakes?

The glaciers that advanced and retreated thousands of years carved out Canada's lakes. During the last ice age, which reached its peak about 18,000 years ago, much of Canada was covered by a thick ice sheet. As the ice sheet moved, it scraped away the Earth's surface and created deep, wide valleys. When the ice finally retreated, these valleys were filled with water, forming lakes.

Canada is home to over two million lakes, more than any other country in the world. The Great Lakes, located on the border between Canada and the United States, are the largest group of freshwater lakes in the world. Other notable lakes in Canada include Lake Huron, Lake Superior, Lake Erie, Lake Ontario, and Lake Winnipeg.
