Caribbean Territories Spain Lost After the Spanish-American War

Following the Spanish-American War (1898), Spain ceded the following Caribbean territories to the United States under the Treaty of Paris:

  • Puerto Rico
  • Guam (Pacific, but part of the same treaty)
  • The Philippines (Pacific)
  • Cuba (granted independence, but under U.S. influence)

The list in the source (Jamaica, Cayman Islands, Turks & Caicos, Bahamas, Barbados) is incorrect—those remained British. Spain's Caribbean losses in 1898 were Puerto Rico and Cuba (nominally).
