Smallest Continents Meeting the Island Definition: Australia & Antarctica

The two smallest continents that also qualify as islands (landmass entirely surrounded by water):

  1. Australia – 7.7 million km²
  2. Antarctica – 14.2 million km²

Both are on distinct tectonic plates and meet the geological criteria for continents, yet are ocean-bounded like islands. (Greenland, the world's largest island, is on the North American plate and not a continent.)
