Jamaica Union of Travellers Association (JUTA): Roles & Responsibilities

JUTA is the recognized representative body for Jamaica's tourism transport sector (route taxis, tour buses, contract carriages).

Core Mandate

• Advocacy: Lobby government on licensing, insurance, fuel costs, infrastructure, tourism policy.
• Standards: Promote vehicle safety, driver training, customer service, professional conduct.
• Member Services: Legal aid, insurance facilitation, dispute resolution, welfare programs.
• Tourism Development: Market Jamaica as destination; partner with JTB, hotels, attractions.
• Regulation Compliance: Ensure adherence to Transport Authority rules, road traffic laws.

Structure

• Elected Board of Directors (president, VP, secretary, treasurer, parish reps).
• Committees: Marketing, Membership, Education/Training, Advocacy, Welfare.
• Parish branches island-wide.

JUTA is the voice of ~20,000+ transport operators—critical to Jamaica's #1 industry.
