What causes hurricanes to form in Central America and the Caribbean?

Hurricanes do form in the Caribbean and Central America, especially during the peak season of June through November. However, the area most prone to cyclones in the Caribbean Sea and the Western Atlantic is the region called the "hurricane alley". This area includes:

- The Gulf of Mexico

- the West Indies and the Bahamas

- the Southeastern coast of the United States
