Who were the first inhabitants of Trinidad and tobago?

The first inhabitants of Trinidad and Tobago were Amerindians from South America. The earliest settlers were the Ortoiroids, who arrived around 2500 BC. They were followed by the Saladoid people around 500 BC, and the Arawaks and Caribs in the 1st century AD. The Arawaks were the most numerous and widespread of the Amerindian groups, and they occupied most of the islands. The Caribs were a more warlike people and they eventually conquered the Arawaks and established their dominance over the islands.
