What is the origin of word Abu Dhabi?

Abu Dhabi or Abū Ẓaby (“Father of the Gazelle”) is the largest city in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and the capital of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The name is derived from a 1761 fort of the same name located in the city's northeast, which was given the name due to the great numbers of gazelle that were found in the area at that time.
