According to the National Hurricane Center, there have been five major hurricanes to pass within 60 miles of Cancun since 1950:

* Hurricane Wilma (2005) - Category 5, passed within 30 miles of Cancun, caused severe damage

* Hurricane Dean (2007) - Category 5, passed within 30 miles of Cancun, caused heavy damage

* Hurricane Emily (2005) - Category 4, passed within 60 miles of Cancun, caused major damage

* Hurricane Isidore (2002) - Category 3, passed within 30 miles of Cancun, caused moderate damage

* Hurricane Gilbert (1988) - Category 5, passed within 40 miles of Cancun, caused devastating damage
