The statement isn't entirely accurate. While Spain had a significant presence and control over many parts of the Americas, it didn't have exclusive control over the entire New World. Other European powers, such as Portugal, England, France, and the Netherlands, also established colonies and territories in the Americas during the age of exploration and colonization.
