Why did the cumash choose to live at San Luis Rey mission?

There is no evidence to suggest that the Cumash people chose to live at San Luis Rey Mission. The Cumash were original natives of the California coastline, and the San Luis Rey Mission was established by Spanish Franciscans in 1798.
