The densely populated urban corridor stretching from Boston through New York, Philadelphia, and Baltimore to Washington, D.C. is commonly known as "BosWash" or the Northeast Megalopolis. It is widely recognized as a megalopolis—a term coined by geographer Jean Gottmann in 1961 to describe this very region.

Key characteristics:

• Population: ~50+ million (largest in US).
• Contiguous urban/suburban development.
• Integrated transportation (Northeast Corridor rail, I-95).
• Economic core: finance, government, education, media, pharma.
• Distinct from single metropolitan areas; it's a chain of interconnected metros.

The statement that it is "not a Megalopolis" is incorrect; it is the textbook example of one.
