Bolivia's Dual Capitals: Sucre and La Paz

Bolivia uniquely has two capital cities, each serving distinct functions:

• Sucre – The constitutional and judicial capital. The Supreme Court sits here. It is the historic, legal heart of the nation.
• La Paz – The administrative and de facto capital. The President, Congress (Plurinational Legislative Assembly), and government ministries are based here. It is the highest administrative capital in the world (~3,650 m / 11,975 ft).

This split dates to the 1899 Federal Revolution, when Liberal forces moved the executive and legislative branches to La Paz, leaving the judiciary in conservative Sucre.
