Prussia's Neighbors: The Nations That Surrounded a Vanished Kingdom

At its greatest extent (1871–1918), the Kingdom of Prussia dominated northern Germany and bordered:

• North: Baltic Sea, Denmark (maritime)
• East: Russian Empire (Poland/Lithuania territories)
• South: Austria-Hungary, Saxony, other German states (Bavaria, Württemberg, etc.)
• West: Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, France, and German states (Hanover, Hesse, Westphalia, Rhine Province)

After WWI, Prussia became a Free State within the Weimar Republic. After WWII, the Allies abolished it (1947); its territory was divided among East/West Germany, Poland, and the USSR (Kaliningrad). Today, "Prussia" exists only in history.
