Why Texas's Panhandle Is Called the Panhandle

The region's name comes from its distinctive shape on the map: a narrow northern protrusion resembling the handle of a frying pan (or skillet). Early cartographers labeled it "Pan de Texas" (Texas's pan), which evolved into "Panhandle."
