The Chavín culture is considered the "mother culture" of the Andes, and its influence can be seen in later Andean civilizations such as the Inca. The Chavín were responsible for many important cultural developments, including the construction of large-scale ceremonial centers, the development of complex irrigation systems, and the creation of a sophisticated artistic style. Chavín culture flourished between 900 and 200 BCE in what is now north coastal Peru, and its influence spread throughout the Andes region and beyond.
