What did the southern states do after Abraham election?
The election of Abraham Lincoln as president of the United States in 1860 led to a series of events that culminated in the American Civil War. Following Lincoln's victory, several southern states began to secede from the Union. South Carolina was the first to secede in December 1860, followed by Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, and Texas. These states formed the Confederate States of America in February 1861. Lincoln refused to recognize the legitimacy of the Confederacy and called for federal troops to put down the rebellion. The Confederate states responded by firing on Fort Sumter in South Carolina, which marked the beginning of the Civil War.
