Why is called Trafalgar Square?

The name 'Trafalgar Square' commemorates the British naval victory over the French and Spanish fleets at the Battle of Trafalgar, which took place on 21 October 1805, off the coast of Spain. The name was first suggested in 1806 by the 1st Earl St Vincent, who had commanded the British fleet at Trafalgar. The square was originally known as 'King William IV Square' but was renamed 'Trafalgar Square' in 1830, following the death of King George IV.
