Where did most people live in Europe during medieval times?

The majority of people in Europe during the Middle Ages lived in rural areas. The vast majority of medieval Europeans were peasants, and most of them had no permanent dwelling, but would instead move from place to place in search of food and work. Those who did have a permanent dwelling would typically live in small villages, or in the countryside near their fields. It is estimated that only around 10-15% of the European population lived in cities during the Middle Ages.
