What year was Europe founded?

There is no one date that marks the founding of Europe, as it is both a continent and a political and cultural entity that has developed and evolved over centuries. While some historians trace the origins of modern European civilization to the ancient Greek and Roman civilizations around 3,000 years ago, the concept of a unified "Europe" as we know it today is a relatively modern development. The European Union, which is a political and economic alliance among many European countries, was established in 1993.
