      If you’d like to travel the scenic water route from the British Isles to France, Brittany Ferries offers cruise options from several coastal cities in the U.K. As of July, 2010, prices for their ferry tickets started at 20 pounds per person. The ferries leave from Portsmouth, Poole or Plymouth and land in Caen, St. Malo, Cherbourg and Roscoff. If you’d like to take a bicycle across with you, it’s an extra 5 pounds, or 25 pounds for a car. All four port cities have much to offer tourists. Caen features castles and abbeys, the Caen Memorial Museum and several restaurants.     • Be in Paris in two hours by taking the Eurostar Train.

      If you can’t find what you’re looking for through a company, or you simply wish to travel at your own pace, it’s not hard to plan a day trip from the U.K. to France. The Eurostar will get you from London to Paris in just over two hours, so all told, you‘ll be on the train for four and a half hours of the day. Trains to Paris depart frequently from London’s St. Pancras train station and end at Gare du Nord International. From Gare du Nord, it’s a short distance to the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, restaurants, and even hotels if you decide to stay the night. As of July, 2010, the cost for a round-trip ticket between London and Paris was about 180 U.S. dollars.
