Native Plants in Poland

Poland is a country in eastern Europe that encompasses more than 120,000 square miles. Its varied terrain includes mountains in the south and sandy beaches along the Baltic Sea in the north. The climate is mild, which allows for numerous native plants.
  1. Papaver Rhoeas, or Red Poppy

    • Papaver Rhoeas, or red poppy, flowers in late spring and has bright red petals with a black center. After World War I, these flowers bloomed on the battlefields and symbolized the end of this war. This flower is an annual.

    Water Lobelia

    • The water lobelia is a small white flower that grows in lake waters. The clean lakes required by the water lobelia were once more abundant, but now only 150 remain in Poland, in the Pomeranian Lake District. The plant is rare, thanks to increased in pollution in the country.

    Marsh Gentian

    • Marsh gentian is a flower that grows in moist soil-like marshes, bogs and heaths. It can be found in the forests of the Malopolska Upland, often growing near orchids and globe flowers.
