Geographic Information on Spain

Spain attracts Americans to its many interesting sights by requiring only a passport and not a visa for stays under 90 days. Spain is a very geographically diverse country, and includes beaches and mountain ranges.
  1. Location

    • The country is located on the western edge of Europe, bordered by Portugal on the west and France in the northeast, and surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea, Pacific Ocean and North Sea.

    Basics

    • As of July, 2008, the population was over 40 million, most of whom speak Spanish. The capital city, Madrid, sits almost dead center of the country.

    Terrain

    • Spain is slightly more than twice the size of Oregon, with large flat plateaus surrounded by hills and mountains.

    Mountains

    • The Pyrenees mountain range, which separates the country from France, runs 273 miles, with the highest peak, Aneto, rising over two miles.

    Beaches

    • Beaches ring the south, southeast and north coasts, many with world-class resorts (see Resources).
