What is the Baltic in Newcastle?

The Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art is an international centre for contemporary art in Gateshead, Tyne and Wear, England, built on the south bank of the River Tyne. It was opened in September 2002 and is housed in a former flour mill. The Baltic is a registered charity and receives no public subsidy, except during major renovations.
