Who discovered the sea route Europe to America?

The sea route from Europe to America was first discovered by Christopher Columbus in 1492. He was an Italian explorer who was sponsored by the Spanish monarchy. Columbus set out from Spain in search of a new route to Asia, but instead stumbled upon the Americas.
