The tunnel carries high-speed Eurostar passenger trains, as well as Eurotunnel Shuttle freight trains. It is also used for the transportation of cars, coaches and lorries on through car-carrying trains. The tunnel was officially opened on 6 May 1994 by Queen Elizabeth II and French President François Mitterrand.
As of my knowledge cutoff in September 2021, the Channel Tunnel is fully operational and services are running as scheduled. However, it's important to note that there may have been disruptions or changes since then due to various factors such as maintenance work, technical issues, or unforeseen events.
For the most up-to-date information on the status of the Channel Tunnel and its services, please refer to the official websites or social media accounts of Eurostar or Eurotunnel.
