Where there wolves in Ireland?

Wolves are believed to have become extinct in Ireland by the early 18th century. They thrived around the island prior to the arrival of humans during the last ice age, around 10,000 BC, and are mentioned in multiple medieval texts and accounts. However, due to loss of habitat, intense persecution, and other human-related factors, the population declined throughout the centuries. By the early 1700s, the last known wolves were reported in counties Kerry and Donegal, and the species became extinct in the country.
