How did Belfast get its name from?

Belfast derives its name from the Irish language phrase Béal Feirste, meaning "mouth of the Farset". "Farset" (or "Fearsaid") was the name for the small river which runs through the city but is now known as the Farset River. The area on which Belfast originally developed was established at a natural crossing point of the river.
