Where did the Irish first settle when came to Australia in 1800s?

The Irish did not first settle in Australia in the 1800s. They constituted the largest non-British settler groups from the earliest days of European settlement in Australia, dating from the First Fleet in 1788. Of approximately 160,000 people transported or exiled from the British Isles to New South Wales between 1788 and 1868, it is estimated that 20-25% of them were Irish.
