Who is the town of Sebastian Florida named after?

The town of Sebastian, Florida is named after Don Sebastian Gomez, a Spanish explorer and governor of the 16th century. Gomez was the first European explorer to map the coastline of Florida, landing in 1525 and claiming it for Spain. The town was founded in 1893 when the land was divided and sold by a lumber company to settlers from the North and Midwest.
