In what way is Puerto Rico and Taiwan alike?

Both Puerto Rico and Taiwan are considered unincorporated territories. This means that they are not fully integrated into the political system of the countries that control them (the United States and China, respectively). As such, they have limited self-government and their residents do not have the same rights and privileges as citizens of the controlling country.
