Where was Texas founded?

The first permanent Spanish mission in what is now Texas, San Francisco de la Espada, was founded near Austin in 1690. In 1718 the Spanish founded San Antonio as a way station between Nacogdoches (today a town near the Louisiana border) and Mexico City.
