Can You Drive from New York to El Salvador? No Land Route Exists

Impossible. The Darién Gap—a 100-km (60-mi) stretch of impassable rainforest, swamp, and mountains between Panama and Colombia—severs the Pan-American Highway. No road, ferry, or bridge connects Central America to South America, let alone North America to El Salvador. You must ship your vehicle or fly.
