What are the major ethnic groups of Yemen?

Yemen is a relatively ethnically homogeneous country. Of its 28 million people, the vast majority are Arab. The two main ethnic groups are:

- Northern Yemenis (55%)

- Southern Yemenis (30%).

Other ethnic groups in Yemen include:

- the Afro-Yemenis (~5%), who are descended from slaves brought from East Africa

- the Indians (1%), who emigrated to Yemen mostly during the 20th century.

- the Somalis,

- the Yemenite Jews.
