Do people have freedom of speech in Mexico?

Mexico has a constitutional guarantee of freedom of expression. However, in practice, journalists and activists who criticize the government or powerful interests often face threats, harassment, and even violence.

According to Reporters Without Borders, Mexico is one of the most dangerous countries in the world for journalists, with at least 11 journalists killed in the past five years. Many more have been threatened or forced to flee their homes or the country.

The government has been criticized for its failure to investigate and punish crimes against journalists, and for creating a climate of impunity that encourages further violence.

Despite the challenges, freedom of expression remains a fundamental right in Mexico, and many journalists and activists continue to work to expose corruption, injustice, and human rights abuses.
