When did Spain conquered Mexico?

Spain conquered the Aztec Empire, which is now Mexico, in 1521. The conquest began in 1519 when Spanish conquistador Hernán Cortés landed on the coast of Mexico with a small force of soldiers. Cortés formed alliances with various indigenous groups who were enemies of the Aztecs, such as the Tlaxcalans, and gradually he began to make military incursions into Aztec territory. In 1521, after a long and bloody siege, Cortés and his allies captured the Aztec capital of Tenochtitlan and defeated the Aztec emperor, Cuauhtémoc. The fall of Tenochtitlan marked the end of the Aztec Empire and the beginning of Spanish rule in Mexico.
