What is Mexican day?

History

The War of Mexican Independence began on September 16, 1810, when Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, a Catholic priest, gave the "Grito de Dolores" (Cry of Dolores) in the town of Dolores, Guanajuato. Hidalgo's cry called for Mexicans to rise up against Spanish rule, and it sparked a bloody war that lasted for 11 years.

On September 27, 1821, Mexico officially gained its independence from Spain. The following day, Agustín de Iturbide was declared emperor of Mexico. However, Iturbide's reign was short-lived. In 1823, he was overthrown, and Mexico became a republic.
