No 1984 Mexican 1,000 Peso Bill Exists—Denomination Introduced in 2008

There was no 1,000 peso banknote in 1984. Mexico's currency was revalued in 1993 (1 new peso = 1,000 old pesos). The current 1,000 peso note (Series F) was first issued in November 2008 (polymer, featuring Miguel Hidalgo).

1984 Context

  • Highest denomination then: 5,000 pesos (old).
  • Inflation was rampant (100%+ annually by late '80s).
  • 1993 "nuevo peso" (MXN) dropped three zeros.

Value of Old Notes

Pre-1993 notes (MXP) are demonetized—no legal tender value. Collectible value only: typically <$5 USD for common circulated notes; rare errors/uncirculated may fetch more.

If You Have One

It's either a fantasy note, a promotional item, or a misdated later issue. Check for "Banco de México" and series letter (F, G).
