Mountain Ranges Near Connecticut: The Berkshires

Connecticut itself lacks significant mountain ranges. The closest notable highlands are the Berkshire Mountains (often called the Berkshires), located in western Massachusetts, just north of the Connecticut border. This range, part of the Appalachian chain, offers popular recreation—hiking, skiing, and cultural venues like Tanglewood. Within Connecticut, the highest point is Bear Mountain (2,316 ft) in the Taconic Range, a subrange of the Appalachians that extends into the state's northwest corner.
