North Dakota's Nickname: "Peace Garden State," Not "Rough Rider State"

North Dakota's official nickname is "The Peace Garden State" (adopted 1957), referencing the International Peace Garden on the ND–Manitoba border, symbolizing US–Canada friendship.

"Rough Rider State" refers to Theodore Roosevelt's volunteer cavalry (many from ND), but it's not the official nickname. The Peace Garden designation reflects the state's chosen identity.
